Summer Reading Programs
KCLS Summer Reading Program
Goal: How many minutes can you read every day? 10 minutes? 20?? 45??? Create your own reading goal and complete the reading log between June 1 - August 31, 2023
Track Your Minutes: Use the Beanstack app or the paper form. The paper form will be sent home with students at the end of the school year.
Prizes!:
- Halfway Prize - Mark 25 shapes on your reading log and get a King County Library System Reader patch. And your name will be posted to your library’s Community Board.
- Finisher Prize - Mark 50 shapes on your reading log and get a KCLS journal. A sticker will be added to your name on your library’s Community Board.
Nothing Bundt Cakes - Read books, get cake!
Goal: Read 400 minutes each month
Gr.2-3 Frost Otter Reading Program
During the school year, 2nd and 3rd graders have the opportunity to participate in the Frost Otter Award reading program. Every year the Washington Library Association selects 6 books for students in grades 2-3 to read. Students have the whole school year to read the books.
Get a head start on it this summer!
- Vote: read at least 2 books to vote for your favorite Otter book
- Vote + Otter Party: read AND take the quiz for 5 books to vote for your favorite Otter book AND come to the Otter Party at the end of the school year.
- Vote + Otter Party + Ribbon Award: read AND take the quiz for all 6 books to vote, come to the Otter Party, and receive the Otter Ribbon Award at the end of the year assembly.

Gr.4-5 Frost Reading Programs
During the school year, 4th and 5th graders have the opportunity to participate in the Sasquatch Award reading program and/or the Amazing Reading Challenge. Get a head start this summer!
Sasquatch Award
Every year the Washington Library Association selects 12 books for students in grades 4-6 to read. Students will have the whole school year to read the books.
- Vote: read at least 2 books to vote for your favorite Sasquatch book
- Vote + Sasquatch Party: read AND take a quiz for 5-9 books
- Vote + Sasquatch Party + Gold Medal Award: read and take a quiz for 10-12 books

Amazing Reading Competition
Students will work in teams of 6 to read and be quizzed on 6 books. The winning Frost team will go on to compete against the winning teams from other schools in the district. Students will need to read at least 2 or more of the 6 books. Students who would like to participate can sign up in September.
